Metrics details. But this has received little examination in China. Qualitative semi-structured personal interviews were conducted with 19 MSM to determine their preferences for features and content to inform the design of an app aimed at HIV prevention in China. Five categories were identified under the main category preferences for features of the app: target population, attributes, language used, potential user access, and perceived usefulness.
Five categories were identified under the main category preferences for content of the app: functions to facilitate HIV testing behavior, HIV post-exposure prevention, warning against substance use, psychological support, and areas for communication. Findings suggest that the design of an app targeting MSM in China should use an integrated framework addressing behavioral and psychological aspects, satisfy common needs of potential users, avoid perpetuating negative stereotypes and stigma, and avoid possible increase of risk behavior due to using the app.

Vulnerability to HIV among older men who have sex with men users of dating apps in Brazil. Artur Acelino Francisco L. Renata K. The elderly population is increasingly benefiting from recent technological advances. In this scenario, geolocation-based dating applications provide a viable alternative for finding partners in a practical and timely manner, but may be accompanied by certain risk behaviors for HIV infection.
Although there are considerable number of users over 50 on these applications, no studies have addressed this problem. This was a cross-sectional, population-survey-based, analytical study, conducted exclusively online with a sample of MSM. We highlight some important factors that structure the vulnerability of the MSM surveyed in relation to HIV infection. The findings should be used to customize care for this population, which could bring them in more for health care services.
In recent decades, the population of middle-aged and older men 50 years or older has enjoyed the benefits of improved quality of life, which has increased their life expectancy. Furthermore, technological advances in the field of medicine, especially those relative to hormone replacement treatment and erectile dysfunction medications, have allowed these men to continue to be sexually active.
Aging and the expression of sexuality commonly refer to the confluence between body and culture and are considered mutually exclusive in Western societies, especially because of the loss of physical activity and the sense of asexuality experienced in old age.
Should dating apps have HIV filters?
The need to estimate divergence times in evolutionary histories in the presence of various sources of substitution rate variation has stimulated a rich development of relaxed molecular clock models. Viral evolutionary studies frequently adopt an uncorrelated clock model as a generic relaxed molecular clock process, but this may impose considerable estimation bias if discrete rate variation exists among clades or lineages.
For HIV-1 group M, rate variation among subtypes has been shown to result in inconsistencies in time to the most recent common ancestor estimation. Although this calls into question the adequacy of available molecular dating methods, no solution to this problem has been offered so far. Here, we investigate the use of mixed effects molecular clock models, which combine both fixed and random effects in the evolutionary rate, to estimate divergence times. Using simulation, we demonstrate that this model outperforms existing molecular clock models in a Bayesian framework for estimating time-measured phylogenies in the presence of mixed sources of rate variation, while also maintaining good performance in simpler scenarios.

Development and testing of smartphone apps for HIV prevention delivery has the potential to engage YMSM in HIV prevention programming, which can be tailored based on use patterns and motivations for use. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC data suggests that over two-thirds of adolescents between the ages of 13 and 29 who are living with HIV were infected through male-to-male sexual contact 1. For example, surveillance and prevention data show that in general, older men who have sex with men MSM are over-represented in clinical- or research-based HIV prevention programs 3 – 5.
However, those programs that have been specifically tailored to YMSM indicate that such targeted interventions can be effective in reducing HIV risk behavior 9 – With such widespread access, the internet is an added resource for sexual health information. In fact, YMSM have been found to heavily utilize internet search engines, gay-friendly chat rooms, and pornography websites to gain information on sex behavior, sexuality, and sexual health 16 – Although there is no clear consensus in the extant literature regarding the association between meeting sexual partners online and increased HIV risk behaviors 23 – 30 Dragowski and colleagues 31 hypothesize that the internet may be a facilitator of multiple partnerships and other HIV risk behaviors for men who already engage in such behavior, rather than a catalyst for the behavior itself.
HIV practitioners have developed interventions that use the internet to reach diverse populations, including men who have sex with men 32 – Common within these interventions are features such as virtual scenarios and simulations, decision-making with virtual characters, and detailed answers or feedback following knowledge tests. For example, Bowen et al. Results indicated a decrease in anal sex and an increase in condom use, as well as significant increases in HIV knowledge, condom self-efficacy, and outcome expectancies regarding safer sex.
Another study, which used an online video intervention designed to promote disclosure of HIV status among MSM, was effective in increasing the odds of HIV status disclosure at last intercourse and decreasing the odds of intercourse with a casual partner at follow-up compared to baseline Yet another study using the internet as a platform for an HIV IMBS intervention found that the online program, which consisted of risk assessment and feedback, motivational exercises, and skills training, yielded more reductions in sexual risk behaviors with high risk partners as compared to a control group

Read about the study, involving feedback from more than 2, people living with HIV from 24 countries. HIV has changed. Having many guises HIV stigma may be perpetuated through our laws and institutions, through communities, between individuals or by oneself in the form of self-stigma. With these different levels of HIV stigma to deal with, PLHIV can sometimes experience heightened levels of emotional and psychological issues including fear, guilt, abandonment, lack of worth and harrassment.

New HIV infections have declined by 35 percent since , and one possible explanation: mobile dating apps such as Tinder and Grindr.
Recently, more and more men who have sex with men MSM look for casual partners through online dating platforms in China. A pragmatic stepped wedge cluster randomized controlled trial design is used to evaluate the effectiveness of a new intervention paradigm, which aims to reduce HIV and other STDs incidences among MSM in China. Through integrating a mobile health mHealth service application app to the current HIV and other STDs prevention and control methods, the new paradigm provides partner notification of HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C statuses.
A total of MSM in 16 districts of Beijing, China will be recruited and randomized to sequentially receive partner notification intervention through the app at 6-month intervals. The primary outcomes are HIV incidence and the additional cost of the intervention. The secondary outcomes include incidences of syphilis, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, disease transmission social networks, testing adherence, knowledge of HIV and STDs control, health self-responsibility awareness, changes of high risk behaviors and other related outcomes.
The generalized linear mixed models GLMM will be used to analyze the differences of outcomes in the control period and in the intervention period. We expect that the HIV incidence will be significantly lower and the secondary outcomes will also be improved with providing health service of partner notification through mhealth intervention. Registered on 16 April Peer Review reports.
Having unprotected anal sex is the main risk of MSM to be infected, which is also associated with interrelated risk factors, such as non-persistent sexual partners, alcohol and drug use, and co-infection of other sexually transmitted diseases STDs [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 ]. With the development of the Internet and the popularity of mobile devices, the ways and venues of MSM seeking sexual partners had changed dramatically.
